Lovely little spot, with amiable owners (who have an amazing, inspiring story) and authentic, delicious Czech food. Get the goulash! Highly recommended.

Delicious food!!! We had the cheese pizza for the kids. Very kids friendly and they brought out bread for the kids to munch on while we waited. Beer never tasted so good in a long time. Just what my thirsty throat needed. The food was timely and delicious. I ate so much and still could not stop myself from eating. The house made sausage was to die for as so was their cream puff. The tiramisu was also very good and fairly authentic.

Yummy and amazing Food!! Lots of comfort foods and great beer. Perfect for after skiing
(5)David B.
This is the best restaurant in Government Camp. (Not a high bar.) Fresh, interesting food. Nice variety. Nice people work here. The dining room is noisy. Music is loud and patrons shout to be heard.
(4)Jessie S.
The staff was lovely! The food was a little overpriced, but I have zero complaints on the taste or presentation.
(5)Glenn N' S.
Arrived a bit early for the dinner menu. Had a delicious bowl of goulash soup and potato croquettes. We went for a walk for an hour and half and came back since we really wanted to try the dinner menu. We had Hungarian Goulash - tender and flavorful. The dumplings were great - not as heavy as some of the ones we had in Prague. We also had the Jäger Schnitzel - excellent, tender pork with a light crispy batter. Did not get soggy with the mushroom gravy. Perfect texture. Both accompanied by good beer and excellent wine choices in nice, appropriate glasses to enhance the enjoyment. Hope they continue to do well and look forward to our next week at Mt Hood next winter.

Great place. The ambiance is reminiscient of an Austrian hut, right down to the food. The goulash is excellent, the alpine plate is even better, and, while although not authentic, their gyros are some of the best I've ever had. I strongly recommend eating here!
(5)Tex C.
Best goulash, European charm. The family who own and operate it are incredibly sweet.
(4)Tim H.
Hot and tasty pizza. Everything homemade and fresh. Great desserts and friendly service. Interior was nicely designed and very clean.
(4)Amy D.
"Friendly service. Great addition to Govy. Fast, inviting, family owned. Delicious ghoulash and tasty schnitzel. Good portions, good value. Will be back!"
(4)Dottie C.
My girlfriends and I stayed in Government Camp this past weekend and just happened upon the opening of the Glacier Haus Bistro. And we were all glad that we did! The food was flavorful, fresh, and well-presented. Between all of us we had the soup special (cream of mushroom made with chanterelle mushrooms...amazing!!!), salads (fresh greens and veggies), the potato croquette appetizer, the bratwurst/sausage dinner, the pesto pasta, and the schnitzel plate. Everything was delicious! You really couldn't go wrong with any of those choices. The beer and wine were excellent too - and cheap! $5 for a large beer or house wine. One of the owners served us - he was very friendly and accommodating to seat us all together even though the place was busy since it was opening night. All in all, a fantastic new restaurant in Government Camp! We can't wait to come back again!!
(5)Drew A.
Service was non existent! We entered as a group of 12 at 8:10 P.M. We were told they closed 20 minutes ago. The sign outside read their hours to be 11:00-9:00. I would not recommend planning to eat at this establishment, they seem to serve as they seem necessary or choose!!!!
(1)Pat C.
Czech food is the specialty of this place at dinner. It is pretty authentic and quite tasty, made with "organic and locally sourced" ingredients. Some reviews also noted the Pilzner on tap. It is a good beer after but it was a bit pricy and with lots of good local beers available in Government Camp, It isn't all that special. I liked the place for the Czech food as a change of pace in Govy but wouldn't go back on a regular basis. Nice folks, good service.
(3)Eric H.
This is my new favorite place in Government Camp. What an amazing experience! Our waitress was super helpful and polite, but the food here is so good that I would come back even if a CHUD was bringing it out to the table. I am in love with the goulash. It alone is worth the trip. Such tender and well seasoned meat! Amazing starters and delicious cake. Try the cashew honey layer cake and thank me later. We got extra to go.
(5)Andrew S.
Awesome stop after a long drive over the mountain. Great service, German food: pizza and draft brew.
(4)Andre K.
This place is awesome!! All of the food tasted great... All of our dishes definitely had the homemade taste!! We had the pork belly sandwich, meatloaf and a pepperoni pizza.. Staff was very friendly and the place was cozy and clean..Will be back again for sure!!
(5)Spider W.
Super relaxed atmosphere, great service with tasty home style sandwiches and pizza easily earns this restaurant five stars. Good beer and wine selection. Had a Czech pilsner with a tomato basil caprese panini...yum! Bonus nice tunes in the background.
(5)Abhijit K.
Awesome...!! perfect portions, great sandwiches and desserts. Great service and welcoming hosts.

Wonderful. Two of us are meat eaters and two are veggies. We all very much enjoyed. My son had the goulash, and I enjoyed the jäger schnitzel. My son's goulash was rich and full of flavor. He said the slow-cooked beef could have been a little more tense, but he raved about the flavor. My schnitzel was excellent, and I loved the spaetzle. My daughter had the P&G pizza, which she thought "was really good" (17 year-old restaurant rating). And my wife throughly enjoyed a Caesar salad with smoked salmon. Deserts ... We shared a flourless chocolate torte and some apple strudel. The chocolate was like a block of fudge. I thought it was a touch too sweet, but my chocolate-loving family vetoed my taste. The strudel was delightful. They warm it in the microwave and the crust loses just a touch of its crunch, but I'd still highly recommend it.... Delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed dinner. A little over $100 for the four of us, including tip. We sat outside (a beautiful August evening) and walked away very satisfied.

2 thumbs up and definitely recommended! If you're staying in or around Government Camp, definitely give this place a try! Family run and many dishes made in house. The alpine plate is wonderful, my favorite part being the sausage that is made and smoked in-house. It says that it feeds two, but it's quite a large plate, so if you're getting it as an appetizer and plan to eat a meal, it could easily feed more. Another must-try is the smoked salmon. You can get it as an appetizer (5 slices with a sauce on the side) or add it to a salad (3 slices). I loved the spinach salad with the smoked salmon. The salmon is also made/smoked in-house. By far the best smoked salmon I've had! The schnitzel is delicious, tasty and moist and even my non-meat eating son gobbled it down! Don't forget to end your meal with some homemade desserts. The flourless chocolate cake is a winner! Service is wonderful!
(5)Chris O.
It doesn't look like much as it's just a little cafe but they have some good German eats and more here (like pizzas and stuff, but we came for the German food!). We had the schnitzel plate and the sausage plate (brat and bier), both were quite good as it all seemed fresh and was cooked properly. They have around 3 German beers on tap and they serve by the half liter, good choices too, I had the Trumer Pils. I loved the waitstaff, super cool people and very attentive. Of the places we ate in town this was my favorite.
(4)Julia S.
Wahoo! Big fan of Glacier Haus! My husband and I were in the area and read some great reviews about this place. We were greeted right away by the friendly waitress who offered us a table right away. Government Camp was booming today, super busy filled with families running around. I couldn't believe how calm and comfortable it was in this little bistro! My husband ordered a beer while I went wild and ordered a tea. The beer was a hit- huge portions and tasty too. I ate a fantastic tomato caprese panini with chicken (and a side salad) while the husband enjoyed a pork belly sandwich with soup. Our meals came out promptly and without any issues- they were pretty darn tasty too! Extra star for the spectacular music choice: Beatles, Elton John, Van Morrison and much more. If we are ever in the area- we will be visiting Glacier Haus!
(5)Joseph K.
Excellent location for German inspired food. Great quality food and service. Outdoor patio seating and friendly service made this a great lunch spot after visiting Mt. Hood. Recommend the potato croquettes and sampler plate! (Great coffee too!)
(5)Kaylee B.
My whole family lives up here in Government Camp, and we are regular customers. The pesto pasta is delicious! The pizzas are super tasty! No complaints here!
(4)Ath1895 ..
quaint cozy bistro with onolicous food. got their about 5:30pm so we were seated immediately. Staff is very friendly and explained their menu items. ordered the Hungarian goulash, smoked salmon plate and schnitzel plate. all were delicious. beef goulash was tender and the sauce was flavorful and not overpowering. smoked salmon was firm and moist with rich smokey flav. Don't forget to get their desserts. choco cake was the great.
(4)Joseph G.
This place is amazing. From service to food. Look no further if you are in Government Camp. This is the place to eat and have fun! Great owners too!!
(5)Potsie R.
One of the only good places in govy. You should eat here. Great staff, great food. Potato croquettes are worth it. And the schnitzel is fantastic.
(5)Christian H.
Amazing food. I had the Schnitzel sandwich and my partner had the white spinach chicken pizza. We were surprised how delicious it was! Will be a new stopping point on our travels out east.
(5)Sitora M.
Cozy little restaurant in a convenient location. We loved goulash, barley-split peas soup, and smoked salmon.
(5)Claire G.
We had a very enjoyable experience here- the service was fantastic, the atmosphere was incredibly laid back, and he food was DELICIOUS! The prices on some items seemed a bit steep, but after order a pizza that was only ten dollars and a house salad with smoked salmon and a balsamic reduction, we understood that even the cheaper items were very well worth having. We'll definitely be coming back! They also have an outdoor seating area that accommodates dogs!
(4)Chuck B.
Super spot! Great German Bier and very delicious Czech meals, very delicious soup too! Very nice, clean, authentic, and inviting Haus.
(5)Hoang T.
We ordered food to go since my son was sick. The food was great. We ordered a variety, a panini, pizzas, salmon cakes, goulash, and salads. Fast, friendly, and fresh. Only thing that was bad was that we didn't order one of the cakes that looked so good!!
(5)Rona M.
We had such a good surprise here. We ate the chintzel sandwich and the beef gyro. Everything was amazing, and they have espresso !!!!!!
(5)Johan V.
Had dinner again in our favorite place in government camp. The goulash and the schnitzels are great - but don't forget about the pastries and cakes!
(4)David P.
Trying to find a great place to eat that has great food in a tourist town is really hard to do. But found one last night an had to do a repeat tonight
(5)Kathy S.
Delicious! We had sandwiches - one pork belly and the other schnitzel. Both were very tasty. They came with a cup of soup of the day (or you can get salad or chips instead of soup). Today's soup was goulash and it was incredible. Service was friendly, helpful and prompt. We will definitely be back.
(5)Cassandra L.
Nice cafe environment with delicious home cooked food. The sauerkraut soup was very tasty. I would definitely order it again. My mixed greens salad was simple but fresh. Good sized portions and reasonable prices.
(5)Ricky H.
The Glacier Haus is the best place to eat in Government Camp. End of story. Best staff, best food, best service. Thats all that needs to be said. But I will say more. The Glacier Haus's environment is perfect. You want alpine cuisine? You got it. The perfect beer to go with your meal? They have it, down to the right glass for said beer. If you go to the Glacier Haus and don't like it, lose my number. Because you are the worst.
(5)Steve J.
We went here based on the reviews and they seem about right. Service is friendly and the food is very good. I liked that we asked the waitress a couple off-beat questions about the food and she didn't hesitate to ask someone and get right back to us for the answer. Our second off-beat question was about the chocolate cake, if it had any dairy. Turns out it is vegan, has no dairy, and is delicious. I suspect all the desserts are wonderful. I'll have to drop by again and try another. Also, the restaurant wasn't crowded and we were quite pleased at how fast our food arrived. My only somewhat negative comment is that the inside looks kind of like a basement with the support pillars and the exposed ductwork.
(4)Suzannah P.
Authentic, cozy little restaurant. Our server was very prompt and attentive with very speedy service. They serve several delicious German beers in hearty glasses with lovely frothy heads to give you a nice beer mustache :) We had the sauerkraut and sausage soup. Sounded kinda funky, but we tried it and it was fantastic! You have to know what you're doing with a soup like that, otherwise it would to turn out so great. It was hearty, tomato-ey, full of mild sauerkraut and delicious bits of potatoes and sausage. Served with pumpernickel bread. Definitely something id love to have after a day of skiing. Also had the jagerschnitzle. Spatzle was yummy and buttery, breaded pork chops were fantastic and cooked perfectly, with fresh seasonal veggies and topped with a creamy bacon sauce. Could have used a little extra sauce, but no big deal. Plenty for two people to share . Great meal and great experience. I look forward to visiting in the winter time !
(5)Erika H.
Full marks for food and service! We were greeted by the owner/son and he was awesome - great sense of humor, professional service. We ordered the Alpine plate appetizer and some cocktails. Very generous sizes for both. Our dinners included: goulash, schnitzel, and sauerbraten. All had lovely, upscale presentations and tasted delicious! The desserts were the best. We ordered the amazing warm apple strudel and the life-changing honey cashew cake. Omg! This restaurant can compete with big city restaurants, no problem, and blew the typical small resort town fare out of the water. Highly, highly recommend. We will definitely go back the next time we are in this area.
(5)Letitia L.
An unexpected haven for fantastic European food, I believe it's run by Czech people. We got the jägerschnitzel, pork belly pizza and i couldn't stop eating the croquettes Brian got -- they were unlike any other fried potato delight I've had before (and I'm not even a fan of potatoes). Desserts were really made with love by the mama of the house. Almond cream layer cake and cannoli were to die for. I was not expecting to find such authentic, gourmet food in Government Camp, OR. A thoroughly satisfying meal and I wouldn't hesitate to come back again if I were in the area.
(5)Andrew R.
Are you kidding me?! My family was wowed by this place, a very pleasant surprise for our random lunch stop. We are choosy about ingredients of our meals and were impressed by the quality here... European wheat flour for the pizza, boar sausage, homemade balsamic on the mixed greens salad. We didn't get the chocolate cake because I'm stingy but it looked wonderful and the lady at the table next to us confessed to the waiter it was the best piece of cake she'd ever eaten, no lie. Staff is delightful. Can't wait to go back for dinner tomorrow.
(5)Jennifer M.
Great little European style bistro. We had the Alpine Plate and the salmon cakes and both were delicious. The Alpine Plate was the first real, European style charcuterie plate we've had since moving back to the US from Germany. Not overly fancy with house made sausage and a lovely pate. Service was friendly and fast. Definitely a good option in little Government Camp!
(5)Cassy H.
Love this place! We came for the skiing and stayed for the schnitzel. Super friendly staff and a great wine list! This is a very small town but the food and service was top notch. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
(4)Evan R.
Omg best place in government camp! Soup and beers! Having taken over the old Governement Camp Markplace storefront and transforming it into a wonderful little oasis of Europe. The family run restaurant does a really nice coffee service business. But we were there for some post skiing food and beer. The Goulash Soup is amazing and our son had the Clam/salmon chowder which I actually got a taste of, equally delicious. The Alpine plate of meats and cheese is a great way to start. The salads like the beers are generous. And a nice wine list to boot. There is a selection of good pizza (which the boys ate) and though the main schinzles looked delicious are only availble after 5pm. So we will have to come back. And after the great food and friendly service it will be very soon.
(4)Jennifer B.
Pizza!!! I loved the pizza and came back twice for it the two days I was there. The owner and server was really nice and we chatted with him a bit. My friends all liked the dishes they got. But the pizza was bomb! Especially after a day after snowboarding.
(4)Martha M.
Our group has eaten here several times and we can't say enough good about the meals & terrific service. We have loved the goulash, schnitzel & the meat & cheese plate. Today we had the soup of the day a navy bean & ham...yummy & the Gyro with side salad. One of the best Gyro's I've eaten. One of our party had the pizza and thought it was "special". Try several of the dishes & share so everyone gets a chance to experience the European flair. Wonderful!
(5)Audrey S.
I love this place! Awesome food, desserts, and beer! We had salmon cakes and the soup of the day as appetizers. Both were great! The salmon cakes were fresh, not over battered with a smooth tartar sauce and arugula salad. Soup was a traditional goulash with what I think was beef and potatoes. Both we yummy. Then, for dinner we shared the homemade saysag
(5)Jason A.
My wife and her friends were in Government Camp for a wedding on July 27th. We came here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The staff and Owners are friendly and the food is top notch.
(4)Lenny A.
Great Jaegerschnitzle, croquettes and cold big beers! Great addition to Govy. Their specials rotate all the time, so find them on Facebook to see what is new. Keep up the great work!
(5)Jack M.
We're from Chicago so I know a little about German & Bohemian food .loved the food here ordered Alpine platter for appetizer excellent plus they cure the meats themselves also had sausage platter love encased meats wonderful place
(4)Marta B.
The food is fresh, cooked to perfection, and completely local...plus it's family owned and the atmosphere is comfortable. Best restaurant in Government Camp! Try the smoked salmon: housemade, and it's delicious!
(5)Jj W.
Best restaurant in Gov'y. I have had a vacation home in Gov'y for about 10 years and we are very glad to have Glacier Haus up there, it is a nice and needed addition to the options in Government Camp. Love the Jaeger Schnitzel, my kids love the Goulash. Reservations are a good idea if you have a large group or if it is one of the busy high-season weekend on Mt Hood. More of a sit down restaurant than a bar.
(5)Cody B.
These guys are amazing! I have been here several times and have never been let down. The quality ingredients make all the difference and preparation is top notch. Will continue to visit on our trips to the mountain.
(5)Anna B.
We visited this place the beginning of August for lunch. I had seen the decent/good reviews on Yelp, but was a bit hesitant about going in as the place was deserted. I'm so glad we decided to stay. The food was amazing. Husband got the Cuban sandwich (delicious) while my grandmother played it safe with the spinach salad. I got a cup of the Goulash and the potato croquettes. Both of these were wonderful. I loved the condiment that came with the croquettes, basil something or other. We licked the little container it came in clean and debated if asking for a to-go cup of it would be tacky or not. It was that good. We decided against asking for it and got desert instead. I can't remember what we got, but I do remember commenting that it was delicious. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Gov't Camp.
(5)B B.
I visited with my family of four after skiing. The food was unique and delicious. The pear Gorgonzola pizza was especially yummy. The service was fabulous. It was obvious the owners are passionate about good food and good times.
(5)Catharine B.
Stopped here a few days ago and had a great time! It was a perfect stop after a long day of hiking. The staff is very friendly and recommended us some great beer. I had the schnitzel sandwich and every ingredient in it from the pickled veggies to the bread was delicious and came together to make a great sandwich. I had it with the cauliflower soup which was surprisingly flavorful. I ate with seven other people and nobody had any complaints! When you eat out in the mountains like this you never know what you are going to get, but I was incredibly impressed with this place. I wish I was able to live closer, if I'm ever back in the area I know where I will be eating!

In mountain villages like this one, businesses tend to run lazily because they have a captive audience. After walking into one such place, we were tired and hungry. And I was getting progressively more irritated at the slipshod service we seemed to be getting. We left and skeptically walked into the Glacier Haus. To our relief, someone actually said "hi" and worked to seat us on a very busy evening. Our server was engaging and genuinely wanted to provide us hospitality. It was a bit of a wait, between the busyness and the fact that the food here is made to order. The food was hot, authentic, and extremely satisfying. As a kid, my German family and I traveled a lot in Germany. One summer, I got addicted to Schnitzel (is there any 80's song remake in there somewhere??). I think I may have eaten it twice a day at various establishments. I have had the best, and I've had what amounted to dry-aged shoe leather. I had the Jaeger Schnitzel at the Glacier Haus. Not many places in Germania can claim to make it much better. Hot. Crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. Excellent mushroom/brandy gravy, all served up with Spaetzle all buttery and fresh. I had to slow myself down to savor this all. The Pilsner Urquell highly recommend by the waiter was the perfect complement. My wife was sad when her plate stared up at her emptily after finishing her spinach pesto pasta. The pinot gris served alongside was excellent. Who can complain when the pour seemed just shy of a third of a bottle of generosity. And my daughter? She enthusiastically slurped her way through a goulasch soup that not even my German mother could concoct. This gluttony after a day of XC wouldn't have been complete without a piece of the home made Apfel Strudel. Swoon! Sitting in this warm, convivial place, eating European comfort food served by a staff that felt like family was the perfect end to the day. You'll be served well and you'll leave satisfied. Why bother with bored staff and mundane food elsewhere when you can walk into the Glacier Haus Bistro?

Outstanding boar pizza and cashew honey torte....an unexpected find

Wow! What a wonderful little gem hidden away in Government Camp! We were staying at Timberline lodge for a few nights and wanted something for dinner other than the spendy food at the Cascade Dining Room. We checked on Yelp and there was the Glacier Haus at the top of the list with an impressive 4 1/2 star rating. We decided to check it out and from the moment we walked in the door of this homey, German-inspired cafe and were greeted by the smiling owner, we knew we were in the right place. We took a seat at the bar counter and ordered up a couple glasses of wine and examined the menu. On the owners recommendation, we started out with the Salmon Cakes ( hand made by him and his dad) served with a citrusy aioli. The came the traditional Hungarian Goulache with dumplings in an incredible gravy sauce and a thin pizza with pork belly, cheese and arugula. We shared the dishes and ate to our hearts content. All the while, we chatted with the owner and every now and then his dad would peak through the kitchen where he was cooking up the delectable dishes. This will be our go-to from now on whenever we are headed over the mountain. Next time we will save room for the cheesecake or Black Forest cake from the dessert case.
(5)Ron S.
We decided to try someplace new for dinner tonight, and we were certainly not disappointed in our meal at Glacier Haus Bistro. I ordered the goulash--a rich, savory dish with meat that was tender and delicious. My husband had the schnitzel--two perfectly fried, tender pieces of pork served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Both dishes were beautifully prepared and attractively presented on the plate. We preceded our meal with a Caesar salad and the soup of the day, which was clam chowder. The salad was fresh and crisp, with a delicious, flavorful dressing. The chowder was light and savory with a little salmon added for an extra touch. Our meal concluded with a dessert selected from their dessert case - all made in house. Our selection was a honey nut (almond or hazel) cream cake with a nice cup of cappuccino. The service was friendly and attentive and our server was knowledgeable and right on with her recommendations. We definitely will keep his sweet find on our short list of places to visit in Govy.
(5)Laura C.
Great new establishment in Government Camp. Family run and well done, at that! Super food, fun people, all homemade as if your grandma was in the kitchen! Fresh Czech and German fare, light not greasy, salads, too. I suggest Glacier Haus post their menu somewhere. We live around the corner (part time) and will go back again and again! Stop in on your way down the mountain. You will treat yourself. Highly recommended!
